Securing child rights through faith based organizations:
Project processes, key activities and accomplishments

"Securing Child Rights through Faith Based Organizations in Telangana" carried out by Centre for World Solidarity with support from UNICEF. The project is being implemented through EFFORT in Khammam District.

Based on guidelines and project proposal the human resources for project were recruited. The project team identified 20 FBOs. EFFORT continued its activities with 20 FBOs in the district. Similarly, the team also expanded its activities in 13 Gram Panchayats, 7 slums in 4 mandals of the district.

Advocacy was another key activity, which was carried out by the project team. Government officials at district and subsequent levels were approached for elaborating project concept and seeking their support for effective implementation of project activities. While doing this the project team could liaison with District Collector, DM&HO, ICDS, ICPS, CWC, DEO and MEOs.

Other activities included the following:

  • Mapping of all the religious institutions in Khammam and focused discussions to understand the existing awareness and involvement in child related issues
  • Consultative meetings at district level with identified and mapped FBO leaders to develop FBO engagement plan
  • Developing modules for training with consultative process in Telugu and Hindi covering topics such as Child rights and human rights, Children and religion, How conflicts, violence and injustice affect children, Children as a collective ethical obligation, How to safeguard and uphold child rights, How FBOs can create safe environment for children, Suggested methodologies and techniques, Resources for supporting child rights, How FBOs can conduct assessments, Additional Resources (stories, poems, case studies, etc)
  • Training of master trainers and all religious leaders
  • Addressing child rights issues at community level through religious leaders involvement
  • Developing and using IEC materials
  • Supporting FBOs to develop child protection policy
  • District level reviews and convergence meetings
