Child Development

Child Labour Rehabilitation Programme:
We implemented 'Child labor back to school' programme for seven years, from 2007 to 2014 with the support of Project Director, NCLP (Balavelugu). We identified the nearest town to the living place of the children and established school for them (Rehabilitation – cum-Welfare centre). We imparted formal / non-formal education and provided supplementary nutrition/ food, stipend and health care services to the children. We provided schooling up to 5th class, after that we enrolled the children them in Govt. Hostels and schools.

Nearly 360 drop-out children were integrated to main-stream schooling. This National Child Labour Project focuses on different developmental and welfare programmes for the benefit of child labour in the project area. Effective convergence and an integrated approach of the relevant sector schemes need to be carried out to achieve the project goals.

  • Stepping up of enforcement of child labour laws
  • Formal / Non-Formal education
  • Provision of vocational training
  • Income and employment generation activities
  • Direct rehabilitation of child labour
  • Raising public awareness

Education Of Migrant Children- Worksite Schools:
We started four Worksite Schools with 256 children hailing from migrant families from Chhattisgarh residing at nearby bricks units. The programme was implemented with support of Aide Et Action, India and SSA, Khammam in the year 2012-13 and 2013-14.

The programme implementation needs to be strengthened and instead of providing opportunities of education in the destination areas only (both the inter- state and intra- state migrant children) but also by motivating the children to continue their education in the sources area (inter- state and intra- state) and subsequent follow up of well-being of the children. Eventually after the initial periods of attending the school between June-October every year, the children migrate with their parents to the destination area. Therefore it is important that the children are followed continuously to ensure that their education is in continuum.

Goal
To provide education for all migrant children and who were never enrolled, dropout and child labour and by mainstreaming them into formal education through age appropriate levels of learning and validated certification.

Objectives:

  • To enroll migrant children who are never enrolled in school, dropout or out of school at Worksite Schools and attached to the main school (which is close to the worksite)
  • To enroll children who tend to migrate with their parents/ are likely to drop out when their parents migrate/ never enrolled/ are dropouts in seasonal hostels for continuing education in the village
  • Enrolment of never enrolled children– providing age appropriate enrolment and providing bridge support at the seasonal hostel
  • To develop dynamic MIS which would keep updated records of identified migrant children and also track and monitor their movement
  • To support never enrolled migrant children (especially from the nomadic families) through Special Training centers
  • To ensure that migrant children complete elementary levels of education with satisfactory levels of learning
  • To set up institutional mechanisms that enable mainstreaming of children in school at source area, ensure regular attendance, improve education levels and also their situation, position and condition

Outcomes:
All children of identified migrant families (6-14 years) are enrolled in the nearest school and provided quality education at the worksites schools/ Seasonal hostel through trained teachers/instructors.

  1. Enhanced competency level of migrant children who attend worksite schools/hostels
  2. Enhanced awareness, involvement and corrective actions by collective efforts of parents, community and employers in ensuring continued education for migrant children (6-14 years)
  3. Enhanced awareness of rights and entitlements among the migrant families

Residential Bridge Course For Out Of School Children:
We started Residential Bridge course for 58 out of school children from villages at Konjarla Mandal, Khammam district with support of Rajeev Vidhya Mission- SSA, Khammam in the year 2008-09.

We identified school drop children with support of local body members in the villages of their living place and established school for children (Rehabilitation – cum-Welfare centre). We imparted formal / non-formal education and provided supplementary nutrition/ food, stipend and health care services for the children. We organized school up to 5th class, after that we integrated them in Govt. Hostels and schools. This programme was implemented for one year and all the 58 drop-out children were integrated to mainstream schools.

Objectives of the Project:

  • To admit 10 to 14 years Out of school children to formal schools through bridge courses
  • To ensure their regular participants and completion of elementary levels of education with satisfactory levels of learning
  • The main thrust is on mainstreaming the children from bridge course centers to formal schooling
  • All the children who are enrolled in bridge course centers should be mainstreamed into regular formal schools during a period of 6- 10 months only
